Incorporating Botox® Into Your Regular Beauty Routine

Botox® is by far one of the most recognizable injectables in the anti-aging industry. It has now been used for decades by celebrities and regular people alike to smooth out wrinkles and restore youth, and to this day its effects can’t be matched by any cream or serum on the market.
If the lines on your face aren’t responding to creams, serums, and facials, there’s no reason to get sad about it. There’s a clinically proven solution: Botox.
Read on as our expert, cosmetic plastic surgeon Oren Friedman, MD, with offices in Philadelphia and Radnor, Pennsylvania, explains how you can introduce Botox into your regular beauty routine.
Botox 101
Botox injections prevent the release of acetylcholine, which in turn interrupts the communication between nerves and the muscles, preventing the muscles from tightening and contracting. When these muscles are relaxed, the skin above them smooths out, preventing the formation of dynamic wrinkles (those lines that appear when you make facial expressions like smiling, frowning, or squinting).
Botox injected by a professional doesn’t leave you expressionless; instead, a small amount can go a long way.
Unlike other treatments, the results are quite dramatic and start showing up about 1-2 weeks after the treatment. To maintain the results, all you have to do is return to our office 3-4 months after your treatment.
Understanding what cosmetic issues Botox can address
Botox is most widely used for wrinkles involved in facial expressions such as crow’s feet, forehead wrinkles, frown lines, or lines around the mouth. However, Botox can also be used to fix facial asymmetry and relax tight muscles.
Wrinkles and lines caused by shifting fat pads and loss of volume can’t be addressed by Botox but can be treated with dermal fillers. Dr. Friedman often combines Botox and dermal fillers if both expression lines and loss-of-volume lines are present. He also uses dermal fillers to fill hollow cheeks and plump thin lips.
Erase those fine lines with Botox
Good candidates for Botox are healthy, have some signs of aging, and aren’t pregnant or breastfeeding. In addition, they don’t have neuromuscular conditions that could be worsened by injecting a purified neurotoxin which relaxes muscles.
During the appointment, Dr. Friedman will discuss with you all the possible solutions for your cosmetic concerns as he has a wide skill set, being experienced both in noninvasive treatments such as injectables and in surgical solutions designed to address more advanced signs of aging.
